Based on the stocks inside the funds this ETF holds. As of 2026-10-30.
The US keeps 15% of the dividends as tax. In a non-registered account you get a credit for it on your Canadian tax; in a TFSA or RRSP it is lost. If that US-listed ETF owns stocks outside the US, those countries also keep some tax, and no account gets that back.
75 holdings, all Technology.
A single-sector fund by design. Its holdings share the sector's risks, so they tend to move together.
How it's taxed
The CRA taxes each distribution dollar by its character. These shares are measured against the full taxable distribution, including any portion the fund reinvested as units rather than paying in cash.
Share of the distribution, %
| Character (2025) | % of taxable | $ / unit |
|---|---|---|
| Foreign income | 5.8% | $0.1219 |
| Capital gains | 84.3% | $1.7720 |
| Return of capital | 9.9% | $0.2071 |
Foreign withholding tax already taken inside the fund: $0.0210 per unit. In a non-registered account, foreign tax reported on the T3 may be claimable as a foreign tax credit, subject to T2209 limits. TFSA and RRSP accounts do not claim that T3 credit.
$1.9700 per unit was reinvested as additional units rather than paid in cash. It is still part of the taxable distribution above, so it is taxed in 2025 even though no cash reached your account, and it appears on your T3 with no matching deposit.
Return of capital lowers your adjusted cost base, so the deferred tax can increase a later capital gain or reduce a later capital loss when you sell. Its tax classification alone does not identify its economic source.
Based on BMO ETF's 2025 T3 / tax-factor filing. Character can vary year to year. This is not tax advice; consult a tax professional about your situation.
